Winter holidays in Norway usually take place in January or February. It’s a week when schools are closed and families go to the mountains to ski and enjoy the Winter. Everybody is longing for sun and snow.

Even when the weather is terrible, it’s good to have a break from work and relax at the cabin, catch up with your reading, tv series, baking sweet breads, having quality time with your children, family and friends. Some people travel to warmer countries at this time.

But what if you can’t travel during Winter holidays?

I’ve picked up a few ideas for you and your family to enjoy the holidays even if you have to go to work.

Hoping for nice weather, you can do outdoor activities, just like those in the mountains. Invite your family to have a picnic with hot chocolate, oranges, chocolate bars, cookies, etc. Take a backpack with you, wear warm clothes, and go hiking during the day or right after work. It’s a perfect time to get active and close to nature. It’s gonna feel like you’re camping. There are some places where you can even grill sausage and marshmallows.

If the weather is bad, or if you’re not a fan of hiking, there’s plenty of activities for the whole family like interactive museums, libraries, ice skating, events at shopping centers with face painting, etc. Check out your city’s official website and Facebook pages. There’s all kinds of free activities available.
Libraries in Norway have many kinds of activities for families.

We don’t have many holidays in Norway, so Winter holidays are handy. I like that Norwegians value some breaks from routine. I believe it helps us have good quality of life.
Enjoy your Winter holidays.
