Even if you stay only one or two nights in Geiranger, there’s lots to do to entertain both parents and kids. You don’t need to spend lots of money. There’s place for all budgets.

If you’ve chosen to visit Geiranger you probably know that it’s one of the most popular fjords in Norway. Geiranger fjord is World Heritage.

The atmosphere is special. The view is breathtaking. The city welcomes all kinds of tourists.

Let’s go to my list:

1.Walk downtown. Geiranger is a charming and lively small place, with shops, restaurants, ice cream, even a statue of a Troll. I recommend the restaurant called Brasserie Posten. Link here. The chocolate shop is homemade chocolate (several flavors. I love the chili chocolate and some kids love it too) and delicious ice cream.

2.Bathing or playing in the water near the camping place. There’s a dent where you can take the children to sit on the sand and play with the water. It’s shallow, so no big danger of drowning. HOWEVER, parents must always be aware of the stream. Choose the calmest place. Have you read my post about bathing in the fjords of Norway? Chick here to read.

3.Hiking. There are countless paths. Some of them are easy to take the children, like the one along the waterfall. You start from the bottom, near the camping place. The stairs are stable and not so long. It’s awesome to walk up the stairs along the waterfall. At the top, there’s a Cafe and a playground area outdoors. The path continues, if you’d like to go farther.

4.Nice walk along the fjord. You pass the camping place and keep walking. It’s such a nice path, almost no cars. It’s about 2 km. You can stop and have a picnic

5.Cycling. If you have bikes with you, it’s an amazing tour with children from all ages. You can also rent electrical bikes there. The path is flat so new beginners can manage easily. We found it this year and it was a success in our family. Just take the main street towards the camping place. After that, instead of turning left to go up, go straight forward along the sea. It’s about three kilometers. You can stop to fish or picnic.

6.Rib boat tours. RIB stands for Rigid Inflatable Boats. The tours are exciting and the boats get really near the famous Seven Sisters Waterfalls. They accept children from the age of three. Children under thirteen years old must be accompanied by the parents or responsible adult. Check the company’s website here.

7. Farm visit. Children can see and interact with the goats at breakfast of lunchtime. The official website for booking is here.

8.Camping. If camping is your thing, Geiranger is your place. There is a camping place downtown and others uphill. The one downtown has even a trampoline and other facilities for children. We saw from motorhomes to tents. Though we thought it was kind of crowded.

I hope you have a wonderful experience in Geiranger as it’s become one of my family’s favorite places to visit in the Summer. Check my Instagram for pictures and videos of our stay in Geiranger. Click here.
