▪️Imagine that you are on a road trip in Norway 🇳🇴 and you must stop to charge your electric car.
▪️You see a sign of a 900-year-old monument. A fantastic Norwegian legacy: a Stave Church.
▪️You decide to stay and take a look at the church.
You get more curious and decide to buy a ticket to visit the inside.
▪️The clerk tells you that there will be a Viking show at Heddal Stave Church. 🤩 at 1 p.m.
Would you stay and wait?
We did.
What an epic experience!!!
▪️Norwegian Stave Churches are incredibly beautiful. They are from the Viking time, more than 800 years old. In Norway, there are 38 Stave Churches. They are made of wood. On the roof, at the edges, there are dragon heads. We have been to three of them: Urnes, Lom and Heddal.
▪️ The theatre play showed the Norwegian Viking Sigurd, the hero, that rescued the Viking female warrior Brunhild. He fought against the evil dragon, faced the flames with his horse and rescued her.
When we saw the actress wearing the beautiful dress and riding a horse, we asked if she was a princess. -A warrior princess, she answered.
I felt so lucky to be there. I’m glad to share this special place and story with you.
On the outside, the walls at Heddal Stave Church were carved in the shape of small diamonds, all pointing to the sky. The purpose was to get the locals into Christianity.
The dragons are symbol of the Evil while the lions are symbol of the Good.
How to attract the locals to a Christian church? They’d never heard of Jesus before.
The smart solution was to make sculptures of the Viking symbols in to the altar. At the altar, there’s Jesus (above the altar) and there are Sigurd, the hero, riding his horse to save Brunhild, the female warrior from the flames sculpted in the bishop’s chair.

🇧🇷Incrível visita a Heddal Stave Church: Uma viagem no tempo.
Eu sempre gostei de visitar igrejas. É um lugar onde sinto paz, não sei explicar.
Essas igrejas Stave (construídas há 800-900 anos atrás) então, são muito especiais. Na Noruega há 38 igrejas Stave. Eu já visitei três: Lom, Urnes e Heddal.
O nome stave se refere ao formato de um barco. Elas são feitas de madeira. Tem mais sobre elas aqui e aqui.
Estávamos na estrada, nas férias de verão, em direção a Lillehammer. Tivemos que parar para carregar o carro elétrico. Eu me deparei com a placa Heddal Stave Kirke. Não tivemos dúvidas: paramos para conhecer.
Chegando lá, ao comprar ingresso para entrar na igreja, que surpresa! A atendente avisou d show Viking às 13:00. Você esperaria para ver? Nós também.
Há um museu no local, com peças originais, inclusive roupas.
Primeiramente, tivemos uma explicação dentro da igreja, sobre como o cristianismo foi introduzido na Noruega. Como atrair a população local para a igreja, se nunca tinham ouvido falar em Jesus?
A solução foi levar para o altar esculturas da mitologia nórdica, juntamente com Jesus Cristo. Temos no altar de Heddal Kirke, uma cadeira do bispo original, de madeira esculpida com o herói Sigurd em seu cavalo, enfrentando as chamas para salvar a guerreira Brunhild.
Assistimos depois, ao teatro lá fora, com a igreja ao fundo. A experiência é indescritível. Fiz um vídeo no Instagram, para quem quiser se aproximar do que vivemos. Só clicar aqui.
A representação teatral da mitologia nórdica, de Sigurd, valente Viking que salvou a bela guerreira Viking chamada Brunhild. Ele lutou contra o dragão e enfrentou as chamas. A atriz em um cavalo, todos com roupas típicas, a luta, tudo muito impressionante.
