It’s cold in December in Norway. Sometimes it rains non stop for days in a row together with strong wind. Sunset is around 4 p.m. in the South. No sun at all up North. What is better than watching cozy Christmas films?

Old, classical, new, comedy, family, scary. There’s a lot to choose from. Amazon, Netflix, NRK and TV2. Here is my list for you. Get some popcorn or cocoa and enjoy.

The Norwegian– This series has become one of my favorites. Hjem til Jul – Home for Christmas is a story of a woman in her thirties, a nurse who is single, surrounded by couples. Tired of sitting next to the babies at her family’s table, she announces that she is bringing her boyfriend for dinner on Christmas Eve. The only problem is: she doesn’t have a boyfriend. We watch the countdown while she tries hard to get one before the 24th. It’s on Netflix. I can’t wait for season 2, which starts on December 18th. It’s nice to see the cute Norwegian town where she lives, the snow and landscape. Some characters are hilarious. You can watch the trailer here. Also good for you to catch up with your Norwegian.

The most traditional– On Christmas Day, the 24th, all Norwegians watch the same film: Tre Nøtter til Askepott – Three Wishes for Cinderella. It’s a classic film from 1973, produced in East German and Czechoslovakia. I was introduced to this film by my husband. To my surprise, it’s quite modern; a feminist version! Cinderella is pictured as a smart independent young woman. I say no more. No spoiler. You must watch it. In case you can’t wait until the 25th, check the film here.

Coming Home For Christmas. From 2017. Haven’t you seen this cute romantic comedy?

Love Actually is on our Christmas list every single year. I admit that an extra joy is to see my colleague Rodrigo Santoro play a part in the film. We worked in the same soap opera in 2003 (Mulheres Apaixonadas), but never acted together, unfortunately.

The Holliday. Super romantic film with Kate Winslet. I have seen it many times.

Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch. Such a lovely Christmas story. The Grinch hates Christmas and tries to ruin it. It’s a must watch with the kids. Beautiful message 💚 Also on Amazon Prime.

Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas. Can’t wait to see it one more time. I am a fan of Tim Burton’s work.

A Bad Moms Christmas – Wanna laugh and feel good as a mom? Then this film is for you, and me.

I took this picture when I left the cinema, last year.

Home for Christmas. All Beth wants for Christmas is to hear him say “I love you”. Who doesn’t? It reminds me of one Christmas I spent in Belo Horizonte, many years ago.

To be a child again. Christmas Cartoons: 14 Christmas Cartoon Classics. Can you believe it? Two hours of the classic cartoons. Rudolf, Jack Frost and much more.

Some history. The Man Who Invented Christmas. It’s a movie about Charles Dickens and the story behind A Christmas Carol.

My new favourite: Let it Snow! On Netflix. It’s a super-cute-feel-good film.

Always fun. Home Alone. Super cute Macaulay Culkin is a little boy left alone (by accident), in the house while his family travels for Christmas. I have seen it then and now it’s time to watch together with my kid. How awesome is that!!
