If you live in Norway, you have definitely heard of the Vikings. What you may not know is that Hafrsfjord battle led to unification of Norway. And that we got our first king Harald HĂĄrfagre who won the battle.

If you have visited Stavanger, you probably have seen the Three Swords in a rock monument. What you may not know is the symbol behind it. The three swords are stuck in a rock not to be used ever again. The monument stands where the battle took place and symbolizes peace and unification.

Well, an awesome way to learn this crucial important story is by visiting Viking House. It’s located downtown in Stavanger, facing the docs. Entrance to see the 3D movie is 150 NOK, more or less 15 USD. It’s so worth it. You sit on a Viking boat like and put on the 3D goggles and headset. Then the journey begins.

I have been to Viking shows and museums but nothing compares to this vivid experience. It felt like I was on the same boat with them. In the room, participating in the conversations, making decisions.

When you leave the film, there’s a store where you can learn a little more, make viking coins, check the alphabet (Rune), find books and more.

So, here are the formal three reasons (though they kind of mix together).

  1. The virtual reality makes you travel in time and merge with the Vikings.
  2. The location is perfect and comfortable. You get there by bus, scooter, bike, car, ship, boat, train, subway, on foot, you name it.
  3. You get to understand more about Norwegian roots and culture in a super fun way for children and adults. A super cool activity for rainy days.

I hope you like it. Please let me know when you visit there.
