If you’ve heard bits and pieces of this amazing story somewhere, now it’s time for you to know the whole truth.

Let’s start from the beginning. Ok, not that far away in history. A closer beginning.

The late Queen Elizabeth II of England and the king Harald of Norway were second cousins. They had the same great grandparents.

Queen Maud of Norway was princess of England, daughter of king Edward and queen Alexandra. English. She was married to prince Carl, who became king Haakon of Norway in 1905.

At World War II, Norway was occupied by the Nazis. The Norwegian royal family fled to England, where they got support from their family. That’s when young Elizabeth spent time with her Norwegian cousins. She used to say that uncle Charles was her favorite uncle.

That’s why, when she gave birth to her first child, he was named Charles, after king Carl of Norway. Charles is the English variation of Carl.

Queen Elizabeth came to Norway to visit her cousins four times.
