February 1st, 2022. Norwegian government removes many coronavirus infection measures.

Norway’s prime minister Jonas Gahr Støre said today at press conference that coronavirus infection by omicron variant is highly spread in Norway right now. Studies predict that around 3 to 4 million Norwegians will get infected by the Summer. (FYI: The whole population of Norway barely exceeds 5 million inhabitants).

However, as omicron variant is less harmful and deadly, the government wishes to bring back life as normal as possible, as long as there’s not many people in hospitals due to COVID-19. The government’s decision is based on professional advice from the Norwegian Directorate of Health and the National Institute of Public Health.

Here are new rules, from 11 pm. tonight:

  • No more 1 meter for fixed seats like: cinema, theatre, church. That doesn’t apply for standing places.
  • Serving alcohol is allowed anytime. Doesn’t have to be ordered from the table.
  • Home office is no longer demanded. Though employers should think of a strategy for avoiding many employees getting sick at the same time.
  • No more requirements for 1 meter at schools, universities. Students should attend classes in person, not online.
  • Travelers arriving in Norway will no longer be required to get tested.
  • Isolation for those infected by coronavirus will be shortened for 4 days. If the person has fever, then it’s necessary to wait until two days after the fever stops without medicine.
  • Corona certificate won’t be used domestically. No difference between vaccinated and non vaccinated people will be made.
  • Group training/sports indoors and outdoors are allowed.
  • No more restriction on how many guests you can have at home.

They goal is for the contagious wave to go up gradually, so that companies won’t collapse with so many absences. They must expect up to 20% of sick leave.

Use of masks at shopping centers, shops, buses, taxis and other places where 1 meter distance can’t be kept is still on.

Recommendation of 1 meter distance still applies to workplace, except those who work with children and adults with special needs.

Wash your hands, cough hygiene.

Well, guys, that’s pretty much it. You find specific details on your municipality’s website or the government’s.
